SORE THROAT, COUGH AND FLU

Flu is an infection of the respiratory tract (nose, throat and lungs) caused by influenza viruses typically in the cold seasons of the year. Like all viral infections, it can be transmitted by direct contact with an affected individual or carrier, or through contaminated objects or surfaces.

Initial symptoms appear approximately 1-2 days after exposure and include fever, stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, headache, muscle aches or general malaise.

STUFFY NOSE

This is a very common disorder, often associated with flu viruses but also with seasonal allergies. It presents as nasal congestion, which makes it difficult for air to pass through the nostrils and thus to breathe.

SORE THROAT

It may affect the pharynx, larynx, trachea or tonsils and is manifested by redness and/or pain when swallowing. If associated with bacterial infections, purulent exudate is usually also present in the tonsils

COUGH

Uomo che tossisce nel pugno

It is often associated with seasonal flu and may be oily or dry, depending on the presence or absence of sputum.
